  3. APRS works best at 9600 or 4800 baud.  See README.1st,  APRS.doc and HELP.txt.
  4. See MAPS.txt on making APRS maps.  To aid APRS mobiles, try to use  145.79 MHz
  5. if available in your area.  Share your copy of APRS with others.

  7. APRS monitors the channel for STATUS BEACONs, POSITS, OBJECTs,  and APRS msgs.
  8. It accumulates a list of all stations and all BEACONS and places all positions
  9. on the map.  APRS sends data as UI frames, using a decaying period so that old
  10. data fades away.   The packet period doubles after each transmission, decaying
  11. to about 1 packet per 12 minutes after 15 minutes. The ToGo box shows the time 
  12. to next transmission. On start-up with a newuser, APRS Queries a response from
  13. all stations.  To Query just one station, use the XMIT-QUERY command.

  15. Add objects on the map using the cursor and INPUT-ADD. Xmit all packets at any
  16. time using the X key.   Only BEACON, APRS, CQ, ID, SKYWRN and MAIL packets are
  17. processed unless you select OTHER. One line msgs can be sent to other stations
  18. using the S key.  Use K to Kill  incoming and E to Erase outgoing traffic.  DF
  19. bearings (entered using INPUT-D) will show up as bright yellow lines.   For  a
  20. quick demo, use the  FILE-LOAD and the FILE-REPLAY commands.  See  DEMOS.txt.
  21. Small yellow crosses mark  map centers for maximum  initial viewing size.  You
  22. may toggle on/off the automatic loGing of BEACONS and POSITS to disk.

  25. APRS stores new BCNS in the ALL list in sequence and maintains a LATEST list.
  26. Posits are saved in the Plist. White objects are automatic, purple are manual
  27. yellow are yours, blue are weather, cyan are dead reckoned and gray are old.
  28. APRS not only plots mobiles with  GPS/LORAN interfaced to their TNC, but also
  29. displays manual posits. The position of a vehicle entered by one station will
  30. be displayed and dead reckoned on all screens until the next update.  You can
  31. disable DR'ing if desired.  This tracking is ideal for public service events!

  33. APRS is ideal for SKYWARN, DX and DFing.   WX stations show up blue with wind
  34. speed/direction.   Other WX symbols can show severe WX conditions.  For auto-
  35. matic WX reporting, use the ULTIMETER-II WXstation option.  See README\WX.txt.
  36. APRS can display automatic Doppler DF bearings. See DF.txt.  APRS will map DX
  37. spots from DX clusters.  See DX.txt.   Use J key to show Just one symbol type
  38. at a time. APRS is ideal for DX if stations put GridSQ's or LAT/LONG in their
  39. BTexts.    You can configure APRS for SAREX and Mscatter.   See SPACE.txt and

  42. Use V to VIEW all packets or R to READ mail.  Use the OPS-COMM-TNC command to
  43. use your TNC in dumb terminal mode, but with APRS processing disabled.
